By car » From Mexico City take the toll road to Puebla, passing through the San Marcos Huixtoco toll booth, Llano Grande, Rio Frío and the San Martín Texmelucan toll booth until you reach Puebla (kilometer 123). Continue towards Orizaba until you reach the Amozoc toll booth (Km. 142) and after 26 kilometers take the exit to Xalapa (Highway 140). Continue through San Salvador el Seco, Perote and before arriving in Xalapa (Km. 292) take the road to Naolinco. You will pass through the small towns of Jilotepec (Km. 4) and El Esquilón (Km. 6) and then you will arrive at a sign that says COACOAZINTLA (Km. 9). Here turn left and take the gravel road until you arrive in Tlachinola (Km. 10.5). To the right you can see a rural school. Continue on this road approximately 3.5 kilometers and pass through the Méndez family ranch before reaching the Dhamma Vihara. If you choose to come by car we recommend arriving between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

By Bus » In Mexico City go to the TAPO bus station. Take the ADO bus line to Xalapa (5 hrs.). Once in the Xalapa bus station (CAXA) take a taxi or bus to Coacoazintla (roughly 30 minutes). Ask for directions to the Dhamma Vihara at the house of Manuel Murrieta (next to Taller Corea, a car repair shop). If you plan your visit in advance, Manuel can give you a ride to the monastery from Coacoazintla.

By Plane » Aeromar has a daily flight from Mexico City to Xalapa. From the Xalapa airport it takes 90 minutes to arrive at the Dhamma Vihara. AeroMexico and Mexicana also have daily flights from Mexico City to Veracruz. From Veracruz it takes two and a half hours to arrive at the Monastery.

Walking from Jilotepec » Walking from Jilotepec: Ask directions in the town of Jilotepec to go to “El Zacatal”. The distance from the Jilotepec City Hall to the Dhamma Vihara is approximately three kilometers. The first half of the trail is a steep climb. The second half, through, is practically flat. There are signs that indicate the direction and distance to the Monastery along the trail. If you have enough time, good health and adequate footwear (often the trail is muddy) then the walk from Jilotepec offer nice views and beautiful scenery.
